General Warnings: Access to Autoclaves does NOT allow you to use any equipment in the autoclave rooms until you have been trained on that equipment and vice versa.
Never allow anyone to use your card. Access will be removed if someone uses your card.
Equipment access form – check equipment you will use or might use. This does not necessarily give you access to all the rooms you checked. If an instrument/room requires specialized training, you will NOT get access until after that training is completed.
Advanced training requirements and access vary with each instrument. See Instruments for who to contact for training.
Access to Advanced equipment requires an additional form – Advanced Equipment Access Form.
Access for Chemistry and Physics personnel: an additional form is required before access can be given to Biology common rooms.

There are 4 different types of training for the Biology Dept. and they are NOT interchangeable:
1. Autoclave Training – Margaret Gould or Chip Foster; 404-413-5361. Autoclave Training dates are posted on this site. Usually there are a couple sessions at the beginning of each semester.
2. NSC Basic Equipment Training – John Houghton 404-65(404) 413-5390; biojeh@langate.gsu.edu or Debby Walthall 404-413-5363; dwalthall@gsu.edu
a. once in the Fall and once in the Spring (as part of the Biotechniques class)
3. Kell Equipment Training – Deb Baro 404-463-9918; biodjb@langate.gsu.edu or Robert Simmons 404-651-3138; rsimmons@gsu.edu
4. NSC Advanced Equipment Training – contact Debby Walthall 404-413-5363; dwalthall@gsu.edu for details.
a. Training is done at any time of the year as needed.
b. Training can be be as simple as a 10 min. demonstration (ex. BioMek plate reader) to an extensive, multiple session training schedule (ex. Cell LabQuanta flow cytometer).
Training session attendance and access authorization is handled differently by each group.
1. Autoclave training – sign in during class. Margaret or Chip will forward list to Barry Grant.
2. NSC Common equipment Training – sign in at start of class. After training, fill out all portions of form (don’t forget 2nd page). Bring to Debby (NSC 338) to sign. Debby will let Barry know you have completed training. Do not take the form to Barry, he will not accept it. If you don’t already have an access card, pay $5.00 for the access card at Biology front desk in Kell 402. Card takes a couple of weeks to generate, so be patient. Barry will call or send an e-mail when the card is ready. Contact Barry at 404-651-3093 or go by his office Kell 430 (early AM is best time to find him). If you are just adding rooms onto your card - same process except you don’t have to pay another $5.00. If you only need access to the common rooms, this is done on-line now and should be done quickly (he just adds the rooms onto your existing card).
3. Kell Equipment Training – contact Deb Baro or Robert Simmons for more information.
4. Advanced Equipment Training - once training is complete, Debby will contact Barry to allow access to the room. |
